Dehydration

1.10.08

The heart has reason that reason cannot know.

~ Blaise Pascal

A great scholar hears of the Tao
and begins diligent practice.
A middling scholar hears of the Tao
and retains some and loses some.
An inferior scholar hears of the Tao
and roars with ridicule.
Without that laugh, it would not be the Tao.

So there are constructive sayings on this:
The way of illumination seems dark,
going forward seems like retreat,
the easy way seems hard,
true power seems weak,
true purity seems tarnished,
true clarity seems obscure,
the greatest art seems unsophisticated,
the greatest love seems indifferent,
the greatest wisdom seems childish.

The Tao is hidden and nameless;
the Tao alone nourishes and brings
everything to fulfillment.

~ The Tao Te Ching, 41st verse

Went through a dark period in the past week. Seems to be lifting.

Found out the fatigue I've been experiencing on and off since coming to Taiwan is due to chronic dehydration. Geesh. I was almost becoming hypochondriac-ish about the whole thing thinking I was developing a whole slew of aliments. The Doaist said I need to drink, at the very LEAST, 3,000 cc of water a day...that comes out to be about 3 liters or more. I'm gonna drink up and see how it goes. Makes sense. When I practice I sweat about 10x's more here than I do back home.

Need more sleep too.

Yes. I'm having to admit that I don't seem to bounce back like I used to. Cringe.

The Good Witch said...

I drink 1 1/2 litres of green tea every day!

I thought people who pracice yoga don't get depressed or unhappy like 'us'- mortals!

Hope you'll get out of the rut soon.
